woodworking bench mdf top
The 4’x8’ mdf sheet is cut into two 64" by 20" sections and two 32” x 20" sections. the two smaller pieces will be butt joined and sandwiched between two 64 x 20" pieces. do try to find the 1" mdf, it’s not fun to handle but less work in the construction. here are a few tips that will make your mdf bench top last longer.. I think mdf makes a great top for an assembly table but for a workbench if you can't go for a laminated wood top, ply makes more sense. if you put a couple of layers of mdf under the ply, you should still get the flatness and weight of mdf but without the downsides (screw issues, fuzzy edged scrapes, fine dust when drilling holes, etc) if you. For the bench top i am torn between using a couple layers of 3/4″ mdf or purchasing a premade laminated maple top. i can’t find any discussion anywhere of the relative merits of these materials as bench tops, though. all i can think of are: (1) mdf is far less expensive and at least as heavy.. woodworking bench mdf top
