We are really into extending things and making them look bigger. we nailed it when we extended our fireplace to the ceiling and made the room look so much taller.. we also just extended our lower kitchen cabinets by adding open shelving and a tilt out trash can.but the newest thing we did was extend our upper kitchen cabinets to the ceiling using one piece of wood.. Then it was time for screws. since the faux cabinets are faux and purely for decoration, we just drilled diagonally into the 2x4s to connect them to the cabinet tops and ceiling. this is probably not how you want to build a jungle gym, but it is definitely strong enough to hold up some plywood panels.. Glue and nail them in place behind the existing panel of the cabinet. glue and nail to the side walls for upper support making sure they would be level to keep the extension face plate level with existing cabinets. the cleats will be what will support the extension faceplate. measure and cut to length,the extension face plate..
